"This will be the first textbook on nonlinear control at the upper undergraduate level, reflecting the many updates in the field that have occurred since the 1990s. Nonlinear control is a control engineering course usually taught at the graduate level and preceded by a full semester course on nonlinear systems analysis, yet - as the authors of this textbook argue -- these tools and techniques are accessible to an undergraduate audience and practicing engineers, if presented in the right way. This book is class-tested, growing out of a third-year undergraduate course on nonlinear control and estimation for mechatronics, mechanical and electrical engineering, and mathematics students at the University of Newcastle, Australia. It is part of a trend toward reimagining the content of undergraduate control engineering curricula, to render widely-used tools and techniques accessible to students much earlier in their education, opening them up to those who will not go on to the graduate level. This alternative course sequence currently begins with the text Feedback Systems: An Introduction for Scientists and Engineers by Aström and Murray (PUP 2008); this new project is designed to follow Aström and Murray in the undergraduate sequence, as a second or third year course"--
This book offers the first comprehensive report on the topic of organizational innovation and sustainability of urban regeneration from the public manager's perspective. Starting from a rich set of case studies on urban regeneration from the region of Apulia, in Italy, it develops a framework for measuring their sustainability performance. It proposes the use of indicators related to different aspects of the urban regeneration process, including the participations of stakeholders; land use and buildings; economy and jobs; transportation; environmental pollution; energy use; waste management; as well as open spaces and wildlife. This book offers extensive information to graduate students and researchers, and to authorities, developers, investors and stakeholders alike, involved in the design, planning and management, and sustainable development of urban spaces. It is expected to foster a better understanding of the level of organizational innovation and sustainability of urban regeneration projects and the role of governing bodies in their implementation.

Orthopoxviruses Pathogenic for Humans covers those viruses capable of causing disease in man, including monkeypox, smallpox, cowpox, and vaccinia. The coverage of each virus is comprehensive, covering the biology, molecular biology, and ecology of the virus as well as the clinical and epidemiological aspects of these viruses in humans and animals. In addition, this volume highlights developments in genetic engineering that are paving the way for potential therapeutic treatments of these viruses.
This edition of Ronald Miller and Peter Blair's classic textbook is an essential reference for students and scholars in the input-output research and applications community. The book has been fully revised and updated to reflect important developments in the field since its original publication. New topics covered include SAMs (and extended input-output models) and their connection to input-output data, structural decomposition analysis (SDA), multiplier decompositions, identifying important coefficients, and international input-output models. A major new feature of this edition is that it is also supported by an accompanying website with solutions to all problems, wide-ranging real-world data sets, and appendices with further information for more advanced readers. Input-Output Analysis is an ideal introduction to the subject for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in a wide variety of fields, including economics, regional science, regional economics, city, regional and urban planning, environmental planning, public policy analysis and public management.
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 8th International Workshop on Applied Parallel Computing, PARA 2006. It covers partial differential equations, parallel scientific computing algorithms, linear algebra, simulation environments, algorithms and applications for blue gene/L, scientific computing tools and applications, parallel search algorithms, peer-to-peer computing, mobility and security, algorithms for single-chip multiprocessors.
The subject matter of this book ranges from new control design methods to control theory applications in electrical and mechanical engineering and computers. The book covers certain aspects of control theory, including new methodologies, techniques, and applications. It promotes control theory in practical applications of these engineering domains and shows the way to disseminate researchers’ contributions in the field. This project presents applications that improve the properties and performance of control systems in analysis and design using a higher technical level of scientific attainment. The authors have included worked examples and case studies resulting from their research in the field. Readers will benefit from new solutions and answers to questions related to the emerging realm of control theory in engineering applications and its implementation.
Quadratic Forms and Matrices: An Introductory Approach focuses on the principles, processes, methodologies, and approaches involved in the study of quadratic forms and matrices. The publication first offers information on the general theory of quadratic curves, including reduction to canonical form of the general equation of a quadratic curve, invariants and classification, reduction to canonical form of the equation of a quadratic curve with center at the origin, and transformation of coordinates in the plane. The text then examines the general theory of quadratic surfaces. Topics include transformation of rectangular coordinates in space; general deductions based on the formulas for the transformation of coordinates; reduction to canonical form of the equation of a quadric with center at the origin; and reduction to canonical form of the general equation of a quadric surface. The manuscript ponders on linear transformations and matrices, including reduction of a quadratic form to canonical form; reduction to canonical form of the matrix of a symmetric linear transformation of space; change of the matrix of a linear transformation due to a change of basis; and geometric meaning of the determinant of a linear transformation. The publication is a vital reference for researchers interested in the study of quadratic forms and matrices.
This useful text provides a survey of the current state of research into the physics of neutrinos. It gives a global view of the areas of physics in which neutrinos play important roles, including astrophysics and cosmology.
