A Teacher's Journey...What Breast Cancer Taught Me is a heartfelt journal of retired teacher Judith Fitzgerald's diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer. Since her diagnosis, Judy has been a dedicated advocate for breast cancer prevention and founded Sisters4Prevention in 2010. She serves as a consumer advocate for the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Grant Program and is an active blogger on social media. Her passion is diet and lifestyle changes that can help survival as well as supporting the development of a vaccine for the prevention of breast cancer. Judy is a graduate of Providence College with a BS in Chemistry and served as a science and computer teacher until her retirement in 2008. In 2015, she was selected by Ford Motor Company as a "Warrior in Pink" for her service to the breast cancer community.
Grace Nolan, teacher and author, invites the reader to join her on her personal journey through breast cancer, from diagnosis to recovery. Shocked to discover it is Triple Negative, a particularly aggressive type of breast cancer, she immediately undergoes surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment. What it teaches her along the way are the keys to getting through which she calls, "12 Life Lessons". The journey is harsh, stark and real, but also very inspirational. It is a life lesson for everyone.
Chris-Tia Donaldson knows what it means to beat the odds. Going from the inner city of Detroit to the Ivy League to founding a successful hair care company and facing brutal trials like breast cancer along the way, she embodies the strength so many women in America aspire to have--and knows how the challenges women face can create remarkable perspective, calm, and understanding. In This is Only a Test, Chris-Tia reflects on her journey as a black woman in corporate America and shares the lessons that life has taught her. From faith, family, and relationships to the importance of embracing gifts and defining success on one's own terms, she shows how all women can follow their dreams while still staying true to their own needs, physically and emotionally. Letting the world go and finding their own pace. Every woman's path is different. But the way to get there is the same: keep your head up, rely on your true self, and ultimately, pursue your dreams--no matter what stands before you.

Three words Bethany never thought her 34-year-old, healthy, organic-eating, wellness-teaching yogini body would ever hear? "You have cancer." Even more shocking? She was excited. A compassionate companion for anyone facing the C word, My Guru Cancer is the inspirational story of a woman who dares to drop the fight, welcoming breast cancer into her life as a wise teacher of self-growth, love, and gratitude. In this down-to-earth, funny, and heartfelt confessional, join Bethany on her two-year journey into remission as she applies the practical tools of inquiry to meet each challenge: diagnostic testing, treatment, losing body parts, finances, relationships, emotional exorcisms, and the fear of death. Go beyond simple positive thinking and learn how to cultivate a healing mindset that transforms any nightmare into a blessing, creating a life of laughter and peace. True freedom from cancer is a state of mind. And you don't have to go to war or wait until you're pronounced "cancer-free" to find it.
Throughout the book, I have tried to emphasize how each one of these five women, although devastated initially, exhibits strong faith in herself and after developing a positive attitude with the help of professionals, does not lose it until her fight is over. These women share a strong thread of optimism throughout their journey, and try to help other women like themselves. I have described each woman’s background in detail, to make a point that cancer does not discriminate! It can develop in anyone, from any economic stratum, from any social class, rich or poor, young or old! However, to give a fierce fight to this disease, the means and measures to fight this war are the same. As such, all these five women, although suffer acutely through the initial shock and hopelessness, and even depression; develop and exhibit empowerment throughout the journey. They are ordinary, every-day women, loving their husbands and children, putting their heart and soul for the betterment of their families, some of them working hard outside their homes to provide for their families, and enjoying simple things of life. The same ordinary women, when attacked by breast cancer, refuse to be defeated by this deadly disease. They overcome their initial shock with a keen desire to fight the disease. I have shown them to be the first rate soldiers combating breast cancer with hope and self-confidence. Each woman’s journey comes to an end with a success, success defined in their own terms, of course.
Eve Preste, aka Eve Dolansky grew up in a small town in Appleton, New York on a large fruit farm. She went to college at Niagara University and Buffalo State College to study journalism. After meeting her first husband, she moved to Florida and had two daughters, Alexis and Sierra. She then, embarked on a 20 year journey in the financial industry. At 45, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Journaling became her vehicle of deliverance from a bottomless abyss. Writing in her journal allowed a to spend time and make some sense of this surreal dream. By exploring deep within her, she began to develop clarity in the midst of a storm. After yielding to the higher power, it helped her welcome the beauty of the entire situation. As Dr. Wayne Dyer says: "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." Perfect health is balanced by a life threatening disease. Once an equilibrium is maintained, we can understand that opposites are joined together. When suffering comes our way, it is how we respond to it that determines who we become. It was her choice to make a calamity or true gift out of her illness. Rather than lamenting, Eve chose to be grateful for each sunrise, sunset person and circumstance in her life. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Eve embarked on a new journey of wellness. She hopes to establish a wellness center to help people balance their mind body and spirit. One major event can turn one's life around for the better: we hold true to the saying, "Things happen for a reason."
Nothing can sap a person's strength and hope quite like a cancer diagnosis--unless it is the energy-stealing chemotherapy and surgeries faced in the fight against cancer. But one can find hope and strength in the pages of Scripture and in the experience of someone who has been there. Strength Renewed is an encouraging devotional for those living in the valley of cancer. Meditations combine Scripture and stories from the author's own experience and can be read in sequential order to move the reader through a typical cancer journey from diagnosis through treatment. Each devotion also stands on its own, so readers can go directly to the entry that speaks to their need. Each devotional includes a short prayer and a Scripture verse for encouragement.
