David has two aims in life, to have a relationship with Bridget and to open an arts café. A short while after David's wife walks out on him, he joins a twenty-five-year school reunion. On meeting Bridget that night, he develops a teenagesque infatuation, and in her calmer way, she rather likes him. Between them there is a cartload of baggage to deal with - a demanding soon to be ex-wife; a deceased husband under suspicious circumstances; a tyrannical boss; unwelcome encounters with the police; and children resistant to the concept of 'step-parent'. And then there's the café. How can a well-paid accountant with two children to support chuck it all in to follow his dream? If you like fiction that is both humorous and bursting with home truths, then you're sure to enjoy A Street Café Named Desire. 'A story about trust, resilience, forgiveness and fresh starts, narrated with humour and insight.' 'The author writes with a wry wit and creates characters with depth who we care about.' 'The story is a familiar one, but it is told with humour, humility and humanity and at the end I was left feeling hopeful and satisfied.'
This book is about my life but honestly that is not what the reader cares about! The main interest would depend upon what one gets out of it? Therefore I am writing some wise words of great masters which actually played vital rolls in my checkered life! I hope my grandkids and/or readers would learn from my knocks in life, and how I overcame my nerve wrecking and dilapidating days of my scuffle with Lady death on more than two occasions. I am thankful to Lady Luck plus my attitude, and character built at childhood. Remember we have two ears and one mouth, use them as such. Guard your tongue, for it is highly dangerous. Unguarded words can cause terrible distress. A wound caused by fire can eventually heal, but scar caused by tongue never does! I must neither take failures to my heart or successes to my head. Other ideas you can take away from this little book can be: Slow and Steady is won the race. Overconfidence leads to inaction and defeat. Don't postpone to tomorrow what you can do today, and do today's chores NOW! Do not gamble under the influence of greed, nor fall for tips. TIPS ARE FOR THE WAITERS. Double up the discipline of Perseverance, Persistence, and Professional Patience. We must refuse to be lifted off our feet. A drowning man cannot save another. What lies before us or behind us is small compared to what lies inside us. I wish to live, because life has within it that which is good, beautiful and that is LOVE. IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD.
St. Louis has an appetite for sure. The places that made it that way have fascinating tales of hard work and good flavor. From the white tablecloths of Tony's to the counter at Woofie's, the Gateway City came to culinary prominence. The glories of Union Station's Fred Harvey restaurant and simple spots like the Piccadilly highlight the variety. Mai Lee serves as the city's first Vietnamese restaurant, and Mammer Jammer was home of St. Louis's hottest sandwich. Recipes are included, like a favorite soup of Missouri's own Harry Truman. Ann Lemons Pollack, author of Lost Restaurants of St. Louis, found these stories and more, all to whet your appetite.

As a companion to everything from the main stage to the fringes of theatrical fact and folklore, this will prove an irresistible book to all fans of the theatre.
