"This report was developed under the Army Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. The Simulated Field Exercise (SimFX) tool was designed to help small unit leaders make good decisions while immersed in an ever widening array of information technologies. Rather than focus training on the specifications and capabilities of new technologies, we provide students with computer-based scenarios that force them to resolve ambiguous or contradictory input from remote sensors, fuse disparate sources of information, filter information, and manage resources. SimFX exploits the cognitive realism that comes from engaging a trainee in a branching story in which the trainee must make a series of decisions that ultimately affect how the story plays out. The consequences and feedback are predicated not just on the alternative chosen but on the information sources used to make the decision. Thus, emphasis is placed on the student's ability to collect and use information. SimFX consists of two components: the Player presents a scenario to the trainee and the Author allows training developers to create story- based scenarios or deliberate practice exercises. SimFX is a low-cost, easy to use training tool that has been favorably received by potential users in the Army training community."--Stinet.
Human Factors in Simulation and Training: Theory and Methods covers theoretical concepts on human factors principles as they apply to the fields of simulation and training in the real world. This book discusses traditional and nontraditional aspects of simulation and training. Topics covered include simulation fidelity, transfer of training, limits of simulation and training, virtual reality in the training environment, simulation-based situation awareness training, automated performance measures, performance assessment in simulation, adaptive simulation-based training, and scoring simulations with artificial intelligence This book will be a valuable resource for professionals and graduate students in the fields of ergonomics, human factors, computer engineering, aerospace engineering and occupational health and safety.
The pioneering research and theories of Norbert Seel have had a profound impact on educational thought in mathematics. In this special tribute, an international panel of researchers presents the current state of model-based education: its research, methodology, and technology. Fifteen stimulating, sometimes playful chapters link the multiple ways of constructing knowledge to the complex real world of skill development. This synthesis of latest innovations and fresh perspectives on classic constructs makes the book cutting-edge reading for the researchers and educators in mathematics instruction building the next generation of educational models.

Discusses how to plan a staff ride of a battlefield, such as a Civil War battlefield, as part of military training. This brochure demonstrates how a staff ride can be made available to military leaders throughout the Army, not just those in the formal education system.
Today's workforce is quicker, sharper, more visually oriented, and more technology-savvy than ever. To truly benefit from the Digital Natives' learning power and enthusiasm, traditional training methods must adapt to the way people learn today. Written by the founder of Games2train, this innovative book is filled with examples and information to meet the demands of both educators and employers.
