This illustrated History has been put together to allow the viewer a peep into the past of the many changes in women’s under fashions which have taken place from the early decades of the 20th century to the first decade of the 21st century. With the exception of drawings of under fashions from the early part of the 20th century, which I I sourced from fashion magazines, and vintage shops in London and Napier New Zealand. The illustrations from the late 1950s to 2000 have been sourced from my own memory and experience. I worked for many decades selling lingerie and under fashions in the retail industry, including experience gained from running and buying for my own Lingerie Boutique for several years. This shop was situated in Napoleon Street Cottesloe, Western Australia. I still have in my possession original drawings depicting nightwear and underfashions which were used for advertising purposes in the West Australian newspaper. Also Calenders given to me by Triumph International; these were used to advertise their wonderful undergarments. All of the above have been an invaluable source for me to refer to. When I commenced creating the pen and ink drawings for this book I wanted to present the garments with as much authenticity as memory and sources allowed; at the same time using my artistic license to present them somewhat tongue in cheek, with the hint of the risqué to make it a much more fun experience for the viewer to enjoy. I have featured in some of the drawings a few examples of the changes over the decades to the style of underwear/nightwear that men wore to illustrate that their fashions also underwent a similar evolution. Today many fashions, Swiss cotton, viyella and some of the fi ne quality silks and wools have become too expensive to use in the production of fi ne lingerie. When the idea came to me to create this “Peep into the Past” it was important for me to record by drawings, some of these wonderful garments which I derived so much pleasure not only from wearing, but also from the experience of selling and handling over the decades many beautiful garments and fabrics.
How did the universe come into being? What banged in the so-called Big Bang? Are the methods of science adequate for a complete understanding of reality? How are the seemingly different entities like space, time, matter, and energy related to one another? Is there a common thread that runs through them? How can the elusive entity of consciousness be explained? If you have been curious about these questions, this book will be of interest to you. It covers a wide range of such questions and makes an attempt to answer them through the disciplines as diverse as physics and mathematics, logic and philosophy, quantum theory and consciousness, and so on. With a childlike curiosity, the author leads you to the questions about the origin of the universe and traces it to nothingness or zero. It is the reinterpretation of zero or nothingness that is the central theme of this book in its quest of understanding the reality. It is a chronicle of the evolution of the authors thoughts from split of zero to in?nite instability of zero, which is the secret behind the origin and existence of the universe.
This writing includes the biographies of eminent writers of Pondicherry and a peep into M. P. Pandit's life. A diary of his findings and life's experiences.
This book is an attempt to demystify the activities of a celestial object such as the Sun appealing to basic physics already available to high school students. Building on simple logic, the contents begin with measurements of the gross properties of the Sun like size (volume) and mass from which the average density of solar material is shown to be almost equal to water's density. Then the temperature is obtained using the colour of sunlight, and the gravitational force is discussed to indicate how the solar material is compressed at the centre of the Sun leading to heating which further causes nuclear reactions. The roles of all the forces of nature, viz. strong, weak, electromagnetic and gravitation are shown in the construction of the Sun. The generation of magnetic fields by solar rotation and the eruptions of solar atmospheric material are also included. To further demystify the methods of obtaining all such facts about the Sun, a chapter is solely devoted to the different kinds of solar telescopes operating at different wavelengths and also at different locations ranging from outer space to deep underground, where solar neutrino flux is measured. The entire discussion is interspersed with historical encounters between giants of science to show the human face of scientific research.
What consumers think is not necessarily what they do. Unearthing this ambiguity between the thinking mind and the doing mind of a consumer is one of the greatest challenges faced by the marketers today. Researchers in the field have devised a new concept called neuro-marketing, which maps the cognitive behaviour of a consumer. This book highlights various aspects of neuromarketing, its application to consumer behaviour, and its techniques to strengthen brand management and advertising strategies.
