Chronic pain is a complex, multifaceted issue that is one of the most challenging issues that we face as doctors and patients. Chronic pain does not impact only the patient but significantly impacts their family members. It can lead to social, family, and psychological problems. It is essential to get the appropriate treatment and support to improve the quality of life of the patient and their loved ones. My inspiration comes from my patients and loved ones. Each patient and family has their own story, and each story requires personal attention. Some patients spend years searching for an end to their pain all in futility. My job is to relieve pain. My other responsibility is to sell hope. The process starts with education and the realization that the journey to recovery begins with their first visit to the office. In my practice, I have had patients thank me with tears of joy. Not many things compare to this feeling. I decided to write and edit this book, so it can help in guiding and prescribing the best remedies to treat patients experiencing chronic pain. It is very vital to get the appropriate treatment and support to improve the quality of life of the patient and their loved ones. I sincerely hope this book will provide an understanding about the pathology, social and psychological impacts of pain to every chronic pain patients and their loved ones, also to help them in getting the right available therapeutic modalities and support systems.
Chronic Pain: A Self-Help Guide offers a practical program for coping with chronic pain. Dr. Steven W. Pollard appraises the current methods for managing chronic pain and presents his program for a down-to-earth, flexible menu of coping strategies for fellow sufferers of chronic pain. Walking step-by-step through the stages of pain from denial, anger, bartering, and depression to acceptance, Dr. Pollard leads the sufferer gently on the route towards a clear and simple set of guidelines to enable them to live with, cope with, and take control of their own lives in the midst of chronic pain. In approximately August of 2008, he began developing his own severe chronic lower back pain and suffered with it for the next three years. His experience with severe chronic pain gave him the impetus to develop a program to help him cope with the pain. While he still has some severe pain, he has regained new purpose in his life to help others learn how to cope with their pain. With his professional training in treating severe chronic pain and the added advantage of experiencing severe pain himself, he was able to develop the effective method for managing chronic pain. Now he presents both his story and his methods in hopes of helping others overcome their suffering and build new lives.
What is hell? That depends on your perspective. For first-time author Tony Sorendo, Hell was a physically and emotionally painful journey with chronic pain wrought with heartache, disappointment, and despair as he made his way toward an awakening of positivity and a life dedicated to helping others. In a page-turner that is admittedly "his story," Sorendo allows readers to truly live in, relate to, and feel a world in which an estimated 80 million Americans or more are trapped today: the world of chronic pain. With unbridled candor and honesty, Sorendo intimately shares the depths of his despair as he chronicles the seemingly never ending trials and tribulations that so many individuals in chronic pain-and the people who love them-will recognize and sympathize with. Pain. Injuries. Insurance. Lawyers. Doubts. Anger. Frustration. Loneliness. Isolation. Depression. An inspirational must-read for anyone awake in this world, My Journey to Hell and Back with Chronic Pain isn't just one man's story or a story about chronic pain. And it's not a how-to or a self-help book, either. Rather, as Sorendo reveals his personal, life-changing experience, his story evolves into a series of modern-day miracles and inspiring examples of determination, positivity, and generosity of spirit that will assure readers that they're not alone. My Journey to Hell and Back with Chronic Pain is wonderfully written in a down-to-earth style, and Sorendo is an adept and engaging storyteller. Vividly bringing his memories to life, his experiences become all the more familiar to his readers as he bares his soul openly, honestly, and with raw emotion. If Sorendo can make it to hell and back with chronic pain-and find renewed purpose, joy, positivity, and hope-so can others, whether in chronic pain or not.
Embracing Life--Living With Chronic Pain is about living life to the fullest and is especially directed to those who suffer from: Cancer, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Depression, Fibromyalgia, Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, or any other disease involving chronic pain on a daily basis. It is based on a one-year journey dealing with these very issues. What makes Embracing Life unique and separate from many other books is that it is written in the form of light poetry, which most readers can easily relate to. Readers are encouraged to maintain their own personal journals, which they can refer to after reading the writer's thoughts for any given day. Thus, it can be read at any juncture and re-read many times. The writer's desire is to involve the reader in their own private journey involving chronic pain, be it physical, emotional, or a combination of both. There are many options open in dealing with chronic pain, and the author provides her own unique perspective along this journey. Although there are many books written by Doctors who treat chronic pain, Embracing Life offers the personal perspective of a real patient living with daily chronic pain and her way to manage the same. "You have found meaning and purpose through your pain and there are people around who want to read and hear what you have to say"--Louis Donne, Connecticut Community Care, Inc.; "I think you should do speaking engagements based on Embracing Life, you are uniquely suited, I honor you"--Lynnea Brinkerhoff, working in concert with John Scherer, Scherer Center; and "This is truly a work of heart"--Christa Donati, Donati Construction Company.
