Excerpt from The Sunday School Service and Tune Book: Selected and Arranged The music is simple and can be easily learned by children, an in connection with the hymns is church-like in its character. The editor is under great obligation to the owners of many copyright tunes, who have kindly granted permission to use them. The provision for the Festivals of the Ecclesiastical year, is full and ample, and from the fact that most of the Hymns and Tunes have been practically tested by the Sunday School of St: Paul's, the work is given to the Church with some degree of confidence, that it will supply, at least in some humble measure, a deep felt necessity in many Sunday Schools of our Church. Excerpt from Hymn, Tune, and Service Book for Sunday Schools The order contemplated in the common use of the Services is as follows: the introductory sentences are to be read in Whole or in part, according to discretion, by the superintendent. The scripture readings are to be read in alternate sentences by the superintendent and the school; the former reading the paragraphs which are printed in the usual place, and the school reading those that are set a little to the right. Excerpt from A Book of Song and Service for Sunday School and Home The General Services, ten in all, are supposed to be sufficient in number and variety to meet the wants of a Sunday School from month to month. The majority are simple in structure; a few are more elabo rate. They are intended for schools well trained in music, and also for those less equipped in musical ability. The use of any particular service in the book is open to free judgment, whereby omissions, introduction of hymns, and other adaptations, can be made. Some familiar congregational tunes will be found in these Services. They do away with the need of turning to another part of the book for a hymn, but do not prevent such a course. These church tunes when learned in childhood prepare the pupils for better worship in the church. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from A Service Book and Hymnal for Sunday Schools: Without the Music The distinctive merit of this book, if merit it have, lies in the two points, -simplicity of arrangement, and variety of contents. The twelve forms of Opening service are all of them identical in structure, while yet each differs wholly from the rest in the make up of its several parts. By having the music of the Anthem printed in its proper place in the Service, instead of putting it, as is often done, in another part of the book, it is hoped that the introduction of chanting, now a rare feature in Sunday School worship, will be made easier and more natural. In schools where the impossibility of chanting is a foregone conclusion, the Anthem can of course be omitted. The Service may be still further shortened, if necessary, by leaving out the Lesson.
