The Church of God Reformation Movement began in the early 1880s under the leadership of D. S. Warner and those who joined with him in search of a unified church. Their goal was simply to be God's holy people free from all denominational division. After more than 135 years of existence, this movement has grown so that it has congregations located around the world. Those affiliated with the Church of God have included well-known individuals such as Charles Schulz, the creator of Charlie Brown, and singers and songwriters Bill and Gloria Gaither. So what is the Church of God? What are its beliefs and have those beliefs changed since its inception? In this book, Mark Jackson examines ten key beliefs of the Church of God and evaluates them in light of Scripture. These beliefs are the authority of Scripture, salvation and church membership, the assurance of salvation, church ordinances, victory over sin, the work of the Holy Spirit, conditional security, divine healing, Christian unity, and the kingdom of God. Whether affiliated with the Church of God or not, this book offers to readers a clear and biblical presentation of beliefs that should be important to all Christians. "I only wish this book could have been available when I began pastoring. It would have helped me in pastoral preaching and in teaching new converts what the Bible teaches." -Arlo F. Newell, Editor-in-chief of Warner Press (1977-93) "The clarity and conciseness of this work will be an effective tool for pastors, teachers, and students of the word of God. In a day of numerous messages from media, this book presents for the person who is searching for answers to life's most important questions, a clear direction found in Jesus Christ." -Ronald V. Duncan, General Director of Church of God Ministries (2002-13)
Our official historian traces the movement's message of holiness and Christian unity as it developed across the years.
The purpose of this book is to take a closer looks at several of the more common church doctrines that can be found the Churches Constitution and By-Laws. Let us see if they still line up with God's Word or has morphed into something else.
I love God's Church. I grew up in Church. The earliest memories that I have are of events at church. I was saved at an early age and throughout my life I heard people say that they attended a New Testament Church. As I got older, I would wonder, "What does that mean? Aren't ALL Churches New Testament Churches since the Church did not exist before Jesus' death and resurrection?" In the Old Testament God showed Moses exactly what the Tabernacle and all of its parts was supposed to look like. Then God told Moses, "... see to it that you make them according to the pattern..." (Exodus 25:40). The clarity and specificity of the Old Testament pattern caused me to cry out to God, "Where is Your pattern for the New Testament Church?" When the New Testament Churches were founded the functioning of the Church was unprecedented; no one knew what it was supposed to be like or how it was supposed to operate. As I realized Jesus called for a completely new design, I turned to Jesus' words for more guidance. If you have a desire to find out what Jesus had to say about His Church and what it was going to be like, open this book. You have an exciting journey ahead of you. This book can be used: -By individuals in their personal quest for more of God.-In a small group (new believers, new members, discipleship classes, etc.) Bible study. -As a guideline for leaders to help them inspire the Church to be all that God designed and purposed them to be.
God raised up the Church of God movement to promote Christian unity. How effectively have we done that, and how can we do it better? Also available in Spanish.
About 20 years ago, when I started taking my "walk" very seriously, having realized the gravity of the situation; I was bothered by the fact that so many different doctrines, dogmas, or "views" were being taught or preached from One Book "" The HOLY BIBLE. It seemed to me that One Book "" The inerrant word of God "" should have only one message. It seemed obvious that many "views" had to be in error. And that's what started me on this quest to find out for myself which views were right and which were wrong. I became, in effect, a "Berean"; one who makes sure "" by studying scripture "" that what is being preached is true or not. Of course there are several other "views" out there deserving of a closer look, but if you have any doubts about what is being preached in your church; do what I did. Take your own closer look
What if the way we worship isn't just an expression of our faith, but is what shapes our faith? The Church has believed this about the way we worship and pray together for centuries: The way we worship becomes the way we believe. But if this is true, it’s time to take a closer look at what we say and sing and do each week. Drawing from his own discovery of ancient worship practices, Glenn Packiam helps us understand why the Church made creedal proclamations and Psalm-praying a regular part of their worship. He shares about why the Eucharist was the climactic point of their corporate “re-telling of the salvation story.” When our worship becomes a rich feast, our faith is nourished and no longer anemic. The more our worship speaks of Christ, the more we enter into the mystery of faith.
In this 6-session, video-based study guide (DVD/streaming video sold separately) some of today's greatest Christian thinkers and apologists explore many of the most important questions about Christianity and what it has to offer the world today. What is Christianity and how is it unique among worldviews? What are some of the ideas that have influenced the way people think about it? Is there any evidence for God? Why does the resurrection matter? Many people in today's culture hold a wide variety of ideas about religion in general and Christianity in particular, some of which stem from distorted views and misunderstandings that the church can respond well to if it's well equipped. The Searching for God Study Guide will draw you and your small group into a close look at the Christian faith and how it makes better sense of the universe and human nature than two of the most common non-Christian theories: naturalism and relativism. It then examines the central event in the Christian story, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and how to make a strong defense of this event. Holly Lazzaro expertly leads participants into deeper reflection on the insights provided in the video study by top scholars such as Lee Strobel, William Lane Craig, Gary Habermas, J. Warner Wallace, Nabeel Qureshi, Paul Copan, and many more. This video-based study is designed to be experienced in a group setting or any small gathering and includes video teaching notes, group discussion questions, personal reflections, and Scripture readings. The issue is church health, not church growth—if your church is healthy, growth will occur naturally. So how do we make healthy churches, driven by purpose? In order for any church to thrive, it must be built around the five New Testament purposes given to the church by Jesus Christ. In this classic of Christian church stability, pastor and bestselling author of The Purpose Driven Life Rick Warren unpacks this proven five-part strategy that will enable your church to grow: Warmer through fellowship. Deeper through discipleship. Stronger through worship. Broader through ministry. Larger through evangelism. Every church is driven by something. Tradition, finances, programs, personalities, events, seekers, and even buildings can each be the controlling force in a church. But Warren will show you how to concentrate on building people and let God build the church. In other words, healthy, consistent growth is the result of balancing the five biblical purposes of the church. And The Purpose Driven Church will show you how to do that. “The Purpose Driven Church has brought focus and direction to more pastors and church leaders than you can count. What a gift!”—John Ortberg, bestselling author.
