Excerpt from A Chemical Study of the Waters of the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District as Related to Fish Culture A review of available literature on the above physical and chemical factors was made in an effort to determine the ideal condition for each of these factors as set up by other investigators and to compare them with the conditions found in the drains studied. From these comparisons an effort has been made to determine the suitability of these drains to fish culture. Excerpt from The Chemical Characteristics of the Waters of the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District While the agriculture of the Rio Grande Valley is conducted on a large scale by many farmers, Whose land is being improved by the project, the small farm meets the requirements of the most of the newcomers, whose numbers are increasing. There is a pronounced mdvement under way for persons to spend the declining years of life in parts of the country Where the winters are mild. California has grown phenomenally because of this. Excerpt from Chemical Analyses of Marine and Estuarine Waters Used by the Galveston Biological Laboratory The purpose of this paper is to pre sent the chemical methods which were used to obtain the data utilized in these publi cations. We have endeavored to describe the techniques and procedures in a form usable by chemical aids or technicians with a minimum of supervision. Excerpt from Examination of Water, Chemical and Bacteriological Knowledge of ordinary' quantitative analysis is here necessarily assumed; therefore the merest sug gestions are given for determination of the mineral matters present in a water, while the items properly lying Within the scope of a sanitary examination are dealt with more at length. Upon the bacteriological side, only so much is touched upon as has been demonstrated to be of real service to the water-examiner; leaving the great field of ultimate differentiation to be further explored, and rendered still more practically useful, by the professed bacteriologist. Excerpt from A Cause of Death of Fish in the Southwest Park Lake, or Stink Lake, is located just outside Of Santa Rosa. It is about 200 yards in diameter, and is Of a fairly uniform depth of from nine to twelve feet. It derives its water supply from an underground flow, and has prae tically no over ow. It has been stocked with large-mouth black bass; and, considering its size, it has afforded fairly good fishing. SO the sudden death of practically all Of the fish in this lake, about July 7, 1936, was regarded in the light Of a catastrophe. In view Of similar occurrences in the past, in which sudden death of fish was caused by abrupt chemical change in the water, some such chemical disturb ance in this lake was suspected; and the investigation which is here described was undertaken. The field work, sponsored by the New Mexico State Department Of Game and Fish, was done by the junior author Of this paper, July 23-24, 1936, under the super vision Of the senior author, and in co-operation with the University Of New Mexico. Valuable aid was rendered by Mr. Alfred Irvin, of Santa Rosa, and by Mr. Parrish, Of the Federal fish hatchery at Santa Rosa.
